About Kibbutz Ramat Rachel
Overlooking Bethlehem and Rachel's Tomb, hence the kibbutz name, it is located within Jerusalem's municipal boundaries. Established in 1926 by members of the Zionist Labor Brigade, aiming to settle in Jerusalem and earn their livelihood undertaking manual labor. The kibbutz was destroyed during the 1929 riots, burned to the ground but the settlers returned a year later & rebuilt their community. The kibbutz economy is based on hi-tech, tourism and agriculture.
